Twinbrook Metrorail Station Elevator to be modernized. Shuttle Bus Service will be available during 10-week project.
The modernization of the platform elevator at the Twinbrook Metrorail
station will begin on Tuesday, July 24. The elevator is scheduled to be
out of service for 10 weeks during which time free, temporary shuttle
buses will be available for customers upon request. The elevator is
expected to return to service in October.

A meeting of the MetroAccess Policy Advisory
Task Force will be held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 5 p.m., at the
Jackson Graham Building, lobby level meeting room. The purpose of
the meeting will be to discuss the implementation of MetroAccess
door-to-door service.

In Prince George's County, Seniors (55+) and disabled customers can now ride TheBus FREE-of-charge during normal operational hours from 6am - 7pm, Monday - Friday. To take advantage of this new program, riders just have to present one form of proper identification - driver's license, Metro Senior/Metro Disabled/MetroAccess
card, or similar ID - to the bus driver. In addition, disabled
customers with a MetroAccess ID may bring one personal companion with them on board TheBus at no charge.

ESPA Hosts Free Audio Conference
You Can’t Get There From Here: Increasing Access in Pedestrian
Circulation to and from Public Transportation. As part of Easter Seals Project ACTION’s Distance Learning Seminar Series,
Dennis Cannon, Transportation Accessibility Specialist, Office of Technical and
Information Services, US Access Board will discuss approaches to addressing
access to pedestrian circulation paths for people with disabilities. This is a
free audio conference open to the public.
The one-hour and fifteen-minute program will be
at 2 p.m. eastern time Wednesday, July 11, 2007.

ESPA Hosts Free Audio Conference “Strategies for Increasing Community Awareness and Support for Public Transportation”

Meetings on the Howard county commission on
disability issues. The commission meets once a month from 6:30-8:30.
The next meeting is July 16.
Howard County Commission on disability issues. The 15 member Commission is appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council. To achieve their goals, the commission is represented by people with diabilities, service providers, family members of people with disabilities and the community at large.

The State Highway Administration
will be holding public meetings throughout the State to gather the public’s
input on particular challenges to accessibility. SHA has requested that the
Montgomery County Commission on People with Disabilities permit them to have
displays explaining individual ADA element compliance on
sidewalks along Maryland
State roads in
Montgomery
County. On June 13, from
5:30 pm – 6:30 pm the SHA will have
displays in and around the Executive
Office Building lobby level
auditorium area, 101 Monroe Street,
Rockville,
MD 20850. SHA staff will be
available to discuss ADA compliance issues,
answer questions, and record your comments. Then at 6:30
pm, Linda Singer, Title II Coordinator
for the SHA will give a brief overview to the Commission on People with
Disabilities and any persons from the public who attend.

The Metro Passenger Information Display
System (PIDS) provides elevator outage and train arrival and delay
information in the Metrorail system. During the afternoon
rush hour of April 23, Metro will begin placing train arrival and delay
information on the Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) in the
mezzanine and on the platform. Train arrival and delay
information will be available outside the fare gates and the most
up-to-date elevator outage information will be available on the
platforms. This change will provide the most information to all
customers.
